Beware of suspicious phone calls and emails claiming to be from the Immigration Bureau(入管を名乗る不審な電話、メール等にご注意ください)

The Immigration Bureau has received many inquiries about suspicious phone calls and emails claiming to be from the Immigration Bureau.
Please be aware that immigration officials will never ask for money by phone or email.

If you suspect you may have been the victim of one of these calls or emails,, please contact the following organizations.

  • Police (Police Consultation Hotline) #9110
  • Consumer Affairs Center (Consumer Hotline) 188
  • Immigration Bureau (Foreign Resident General Information Center) 0570-013904 (Available in languages ​​other than Japanese)

Precautions to avoid becoming a victim:(被害に遭わないための注意事項)

  • Do not respond to calls you do not recognize.
  • The Immigration Bureau will never call you from an overseas phone number beginning with a "+" (plus).
  • Actual phone numbers and email addresses may be spoofed, so be sure to check the affiliation of the other party.

Examples of inquiries received by the Immigration Bureau to date:(これまでに入管に寄せられた相談事例)

  • An automated voice message said, ‘We have important documents for you’, ‘You need to send us additional documents’, ‘The deadline is approaching’, etc., and instructed me to press a number.
  • A foreign acquaintance was held up at immigration at the airport, and I was asked to transfer an entry fee.
  •  I received an email stating that I would have to pay a fine of 2 million yen if I did not renew my visa.
