Higashihiroshima City is situated almost in the center of Hiroshima Prefecture.
Surrounded by abundant natural resources, it boasts a long history and rich culture.

The city emblem is designed around the shape of the initial letter of Higashihiroshima, ‘ひ’ (hi), which also suggests the form of flying birds. The emblem symbolizes hope for the unlimited progress and development of Higashihiroshima City, as a university city surrounded by verdant nature.

The Climate and Weather in Higashihiroshima City(東広島市の気候)

Higashihiroshima City has many areas of flat land surrounded by low mountains, and the climate of the city is relatively mild.

  •  March to April
    The temperature becomes warmer little by little. Cherry blossoms bloom around the city, including in Kagamiyama Park.
  • June to around the middle of July
    The rainy season heralds the beginning of summer, and the humidity rises.
  • August to September
     The maximum temperature can sometimes be more than 35 degrees, and there are many humid days with strong sunshine. It is important to
    be careful, in order to avoid heatstroke.
  • October to November
    The temperature becomes lower little by little, and daily life becomes more comfortable. Red leaves can be enjoyed across the city.
  • December to February
    The minimum temperature can sometimes be below freezing, and there is snow from time to time. If you will be driving, it is a good idea to fit snow tires to your vehicle.

City flower: Azalea (tsutsuji)

Azaleas grow naturally in the fields and mountains of Higashihiroshima City. Blossoming in May, the azalea flowers in bloom make a beautiful contrast to the green of the young leaves.

City tree: Pine (matsu)

Approximately 90% of the city’s mountain area is covered by pine trees. From ancient times, pine trees have been loved by local people, as exemplified by the fact that ‘pine’ remains in many place names, such as Hachihonmatsu (literally, ‘eight pine trees’).
