Mitsujo Tumulus(next to the Central Library)(三ッ城古墳)

One of the largest keyhole-shaped tombs in Hiroshima Prefecture, measuring 92m in length, is situated in Saijo-chuo. It is said that the name of the tumulus- ‘Mitsujo (three castles) Tumulus’- comes from the fact that it consists of three elevated parts- the first tomb’s front part and round rear part, and the second tomb. It is thought that these are the tombs of an ancient baronial family, and a study revealed that the first tomb was constructed in the first half of the 5th Century.
Currently, this area, as Mitsujo Park, is equipped with open squares and play equipment for children to play near the tumulus, and is visited by many families with children during holidays.
