Category-Based Vehicle Tax (Local Tax) （自動車税種別割（地方税））
If you own a normal vehicle as of April 1st each year, you will need to pay this tax. If you buy a vehicle part-way through the financial year, you will need to pay an amount of tax calculated based on the number of remaining months in the financial year. For example, if you buy a vehicle in September, you will need to pay category-based vehicle tax for the six months from October (the month after you bought the vehicle) to March of the following year.
Payment period（納税時期）
If you own a vehicle as of April 1st, you will be sent a payment slip at the beginning of May. Please pay the tax by May 31st. If you buy a vehicle part-way through the financial year, you will need to pay the tax at the time of purchase.
