How to Pay Tax(税金の納付方法)

更新日:2023年12月22日

By bank account transfer(口座振替)

Apply at the Tax Collection Division in the City Office, or at a financial institution that handles these payments.

By payment slips(納付書)

You can pay at a financial institution, a Post Office, or a convenience store.

Paying with a smartphone or computer(スマホやパソコンから納付)

By PayB or PayPay

If you download the PayB or PayPay apps to your smartphone or tablet, you can use these services to pay your tax. There is no charge for using these services.
Scan the barcode (used when paying at a convenience store) shown on the payment slip using the camera of your device, check the details, and make the payment.

※ You can use these services to pay municipal and prefectural tax (ordinary collection), fixed asset tax, light vehicle and motorcycle tax, and National Health Insurance premiums. The maximum amount you can pay is 300,000 yen.

Local Tax Unified QR Code

From April 2023, you can pay Fixed Asset Tax, City Planning Tax, and Light Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax (the portion based on type) from a computer or smartphone by scanning the ‘Local Tax Unified QR Code’ printed on the payment slip.
Also, you can pay these taxes at any financial institution in Japan which can deal with ‘Local Tax Unified QR Codes’.
Municipal and Prefectural Tax (resident tax) and National Health Insurance premiums are not part of this system, and so the methods for payment are unchanged from before.

Measures That Will Be Taken if Your Payments Are Late, or if You Stop Paying Tax

You must pay tax by the payment deadline. If you do not, you will be sent a reminder, and you may be subject to non-payment penalties, such as a property audit and seizure of assets. If you are unable to pay by the deadline, please be sure to discuss matters with the Tax Collection Division in the City Office.
