Taxation Treaties(租税条約)

Taxation Treaties are international treaties to prevent non-payment of tax, and also double payment of tax related to income.
If you are from a country that has such a taxation treaty with Japan, by completing the necessary formalities, you may be able to receive an exemption from income tax and municipal and prefectural tax.

Procedures for exemption from income tax(所得税の免除手続き)

Submit the following documents to the Tax Office, via your workplace.

Items to submit to your workplace

□Notification Regarding Tax Treaties租税(そぜい)条約(じょうやく)(かん)する 届出書(とどけでしょ) (you will need to enclose supporting documents)

★You should submit the notification and the supporting documents to your workplace before the date on which your first wage will be paid.

Procedures for exemption from municipal and prefectural tax(市県民税の免除手続き)

Submit the following documents to the Municipal Tax Division in the City Office.

Necessary Items

□A copy of the Notification Regarding Tax Treaties that you submitted to the Tax Office (with a stamp of receipt shown)
□Your residence card
□Your student ID (if you are a student)


★Please complete the formalities by March 15th each year.
