Telephone consultation for children’s medical emergencies(こどもの救急電話相談)

When a child suddenly gets sick at night, it tends to be difficult to decide whether to have her child see a doctor right away, or wait until the next morning. In such a situation, please discuss matters here first. The advisors (nurses) will advise you over the phone on the need for a medical examination and on first aid that can be done at home.

Hours of operation:

The service is available all year round. On weekdays, it is open from 19:00 to 8:00 the following morning. On weekends, national holidays, and over the year end/New Year period, it is open from 17:00 to 8:00 the following morning.

Points to note:

1. This service is for children with urgent medical conditions. Please refrain from using the service for non-urgent consultations, such as for chronic diseases or for childcare consultations.

2. When your call is answered, please speak calmly and slowly, and give details of your child's age, gender, symptoms, and your area of residence. If there are obvious serious symptoms (if the child’s breathing or heart has stopped, if there are serious injuries from an accident, etc.), please call 119 immediately.

3. This telephone consultation service provides advice, not diagnosis or treatment.

4. Please be aware that the call will be recorded in order that the details of the consultation can be checked.

#7119 Hiroshima Metropolitan Area Emergency Consultation Center(救急相談センター広島広域都市圏)

Please use this service when you are not sure whether to visit an emergency medical institution. A nurse will listen to the symptoms of illness or injury your describe, and advise you over the phone on how serious it is, any first aid methods, appropriate medical institutions, etc.

You can also just check the medical institution on emergency duty. The operator has a list of emergency duty doctors for the day.

This service also accepts consultations for children. It's not limited to adults.

Higashihiroshima Medical Center(東広島医療センター)

Higashihiroshima Medical Center deals with seriously ill patients such as patients with injuries and sudden illnesses that require emergency surgery and hospitalization, so please contact the center by phone before visiting.

If you visit without a letter of introduction, or if you visit after hours or on holidays, you may need to pay ‘selected medical care expenses’ (7,700 yen) separately.

However, for seriously ill patients, the ‘selected medical expenses’ will not be required.
