The periods for cervical cancer vaccine catch-ups and routine vaccinations for girls equivalent to first-year high school students have been extended by one year, subject to certain conditions.(子宮頸がんワクチンのキャッチアッ プと高校1年生相当の女子の定期接 種は条件付きで1年延長の見込)

For catch-up vaccinations, the period for publicly funded vaccinations has been extended until the end of March 2026 if the child has received at least one dose by the end of March 2025.

Regular vaccination and Catch-up vaccination for cervical cancer(子宮頸がんワクチンの定期接種とキャッチアップ接種)

Before receiving the vaccination, please make an appointment directly with a medical institution having fully understand the effectiveness and risks of the HPV vaccine.
Irrespective of the type of vaccine, those who have previously received three doses of the vaccine overseas or in Japan are not eligible.

Eligibility for Catch-up Vaccinations and Period(キャッチアップ接種の対象者と期間)

Eligibility: Females born between April 2, 1997 and April 1, 2008 who are registered as residents of Higashihiroshima City on the day of vaccination.
*However, from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, only those who received at least one dose between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2025 are eligible.

Period: 2024 From April 1st to March 31st, 2026

Target Groups for Routine Vaccination(定期接種の対象者)

Girls who are registered as residents of Higashihiroshima City on the day of vaccination and who are between the ages equivalent to 6th grade and 1st year high school students (those who are between the first day of the fiscal year in which they turn 12 and the last day of the fiscal year in which they turn 16).
*For girls who are 1st year high school students in fiscal year 2024, those who received at least one vaccination between April 1st, 2022 and March 31st, 2025, can receive the remaining vaccinations at public expense until March 31st, 2026.

How to receive the vaccination(予防接種の受け方)

1. Make an appointment with a medical institution(医療機関へ予約)

Those wishing to receive the vaccination outside of Higashihiroshima City must complete the necessary procedures in advance. Please enquire at the Medical Treatment and Health Division at the City Office.

2. The vaccination(ワクチンの接種)

The number of vaccinations (doses) and intervals between vaccinations vary depending on the type of vaccine and the age at which it is administered.
All of the vaccines are administered a set number of times over a period of six months to a year.

In principle, the same type of vaccine is administered. However, after consulting with your doctor, those who have received the bivalent or quadrivalent vaccine can complete the remaining vaccinations with the 9-valent vaccine (alternate vaccination).

When receiving the vaccination, take the necessary items with you(接種の際に必要な物)

The vaccination history information, the cervical cancer vaccination pre-examination slip, a document to confirm that you are a citizen of Higashihiroshima (your My Number Card, etc.)

Points to note(注意事項)

If you experience any concerning symptoms such as pain, numbness, or weakness that last for a long time after vaccination, please consult the medical institution where you received the vaccination.

Those with the following symptoms cannot receive the vaccination(予防接種を受けることが出来ない方)

  • If you have a clear fever (37.5℃ or higher).
  •  If it is clear that you are suffering from a serious acute illness.
  •  If you have previously experienced anaphylaxis due to a vaccination you received or the ingredients contained in the vaccination.
  • If the doctor determines that the vaccination is not appropriate for any other reason other than the above.

What is anaphylaxis?(アナフィラキシーとは)

A severe allergic reaction that occurs within about 30 minutes after vaccination. A severe systemic reaction that can lead to a state of shock followed by symptoms such as excessive sweating, sudden swelling of the face, severe hives all over the body, nausea, vomiting, difficulty speaking, and difficulty breathing.

Those to whom the following apply should consult their doctor in advance(該当する場合は、事前に主治医に相談しましょう

  • Those who are receiving treatment for heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, blood disease, a developmental disorder, etc.
  • Those who have had convulsions in the past.
  • Those who been diagnosed with immunodeficiency in the past or have a close relative with congenital immunodeficiency.
  • Those for whom abnormalities that appeared to be allergic, such as fever, rash, or hives, were observed within 2 days of previous vaccinations.

The HPV vaccine does not 100% prevent cancer. Even after vaccination, you should undergo cervical cancer screening regularly from the age of 20 onwards.
