The 9-valent HPV vaccine for cervical cancer has been made a routine vaccination(子宮頸がん9価HPVワクチ ンの定期接種)

The cervical cancer vaccine is generally administered three times over a six-month period. To receive all three doses free of charge, the first dose must be administered by the end of September 2024. Check your eligibility in the table below and consider getting vaccinated as soon as possible.

When receiving the vaccination, please ensure that you fully understand the effectiveness and risks of the HPV vaccine, and then make an appointment directly with a medical institution to receive the vaccination.

Regardless of the type of vaccine, those who have been vaccinated 3 times in the past overseas or in Japan are not eligible.Those who have not been vaccinated or have been vaccinated 1 to 2 times can be vaccinated to make up for the shortage.

Eligibility(対象者)

The catch-up vaccination of the cervical cancer vaccine and the regular vaccination for girls equivalent to the first year of high school in 2024 will be available until the end of March 2025.

Regular vaccination(定期接種)

Females who are 6 years old to the first grade of high school with resident registration in the city
(Those who will be 16 years old in the 2024-25 financial year will be charged after March 31, 2025.)

Catch-up vaccination(キャッチアップ接種)

Women born between April 2, 1997 and April 1, 2008 who are registered as residents in the city

Those who were unable to get vaccinated at public expense due to the ‘withholding of active encouragement’ will have the opportunity to get vaccinated again until March 31, 2025.

A fee will be charged after March 31, 2025.

How to receive the vaccination(予防接種の受け方)

1. Make an appointment with a medical institution(医療機関へ予約)

Those wishing to receive the vaccination outside of Higashihiroshima City must complete the necessary procedures in advance. Please enquire at the Medical Treatment and Health Division at the City Office.

2. The vaccination(ワクチンの接種)

The number of vaccinations (doses) and intervals between vaccinations vary depending on the type of vaccine and the age at which it is administered.
All of the vaccines are administered a set number of times over a period of six months to a year.

In principle, the same type of vaccine is administered. However, after consulting with your doctor, those who have received the bivalent or quadrivalent vaccine can complete the remaining vaccinations with the 9-valent vaccine (alternate vaccination).

When receiving the vaccination, take the necessary items with you(接種の際に必要な物)

The vaccination history information, the cervical cancer vaccination pre-examination slip, a document to confirm that you are a citizen of Higashihiroshima (your My Number Card, etc.)

Points to note(注意事項)

If you experience any concerning symptoms such as pain, numbness, or weakness that last for a long time after vaccination, please consult the medical institution where you received the vaccination.

Those with the following symptoms cannot receive the vaccination(予防接種を受けることが出来ない方)

  • If you have a clear fever (37.5℃ or higher).
  •  If it is clear that you are suffering from a serious acute illness.
  •  If you have previously experienced anaphylaxis due to a vaccination you received or the ingredients contained in the vaccination.
  • If the doctor determines that the vaccination is not appropriate for any other reason other than the above.

What is anaphylaxis?(アナフィラキシーとは)

A severe allergic reaction that occurs within about 30 minutes after vaccination. A severe systemic reaction that can lead to a state of shock followed by symptoms such as excessive sweating, sudden swelling of the face, severe hives all over the body, nausea, vomiting, difficulty speaking, and difficulty breathing.

Those to whom the following apply should consult their doctor in advance(該当する場合は、事前に主治医に相談しましょう

  • Those who are receiving treatment for heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, blood disease, a developmental disorder, etc.
  • Those who have had convulsions in the past.
  • Those who been diagnosed with immunodeficiency in the past or have a close relative with congenital immunodeficiency.
  • Those for whom abnormalities that appeared to be allergic, such as fever, rash, or hives, were observed within 2 days of previous vaccinations.

The HPV vaccine does not 100% prevent cancer. Even after vaccination, you should undergo cervical cancer screening regularly from the age of 20 onwards.
