Application for admission to nursery schools in April 2026（令和8年度4月保育所（園）入所申込について）

Application period: Tuesday, November 4, 2025 to Friday, November 28, 2025

• A separate application for admission for January to March of 2026 is required.
• If you send the application by post, it must arrive within the application period.
• Notification of April admission results will be sent out in late January.
• If there are any vacancies for April admission, a second round of applications will be held from around February.

(Details will be posted on the city website as soon as they are decided.)

Admission/transfer application acceptance period（入所・転所申込受付期間）

*Notification of admission results will be sent out around the 10th of the month prior to admission and should arrive at your address around the 15th.

Applications can be accepted at the following locations（申込受付場所）

• Child Care Division (2nd floor, Higashihiroshima City Office)
• Each branch office (Applications cannot be accepted at sub-branch offices)
• Online application  

*When the counters are busy, you may have to wait a long time to apply.

If you want to change your application details after applying for admission
If you would like to change your preferred facility, the sibling enrollment pattern, or your childcare requirements after applying for admission for your child, please apply online.Please apply here.

* Please complete the procedures during the application period for the month in which you would like the changes to be reflected.
* Requests for changes cannot be accepted over the phone.

Important points to note when applying（申込時の注意事項）

• When applying, please be sure to check the ‘Childcare Facility Application Guide’.

• If you are applying for siblings at the same time, please fill out one application form for each child. Copies of the declaration and required documents are acceptable.

• Documents cannot be returned once submitted. Please prepare copies before submitting.

• You can apply even if you do not have all the required documents. However, we cannot review your application based on formal details.

• If your childcare requirements change during the application process, please be sure to contact the Child Care Division. If your childcare requirements change after your application is approved, your child's admission may be cancelled.

• If you wish to use a public childcare facility, please be sure to check the Important Information Explanation Form for the respective facility.

• If you wish to send your child to a private approved kodomo-en, you will need to agree to the Important Information Explanation Form and submit it to the respective facility in advance.

Changes from the 2025-26 academic year（令和7年度 からの変更点）

The childcare leave withdrawal system has been abolished.（育休退園制度が廃止されました）

For children attending a nursery school after April 1, 2026, even if the child’s parent(s) take childcare leave, the child may continue to attend the childcare facility if they wish, regardless of the child’s age.
For children who left daycare due to childcare leave by March 31, 2026, arrangements will be made so they can re-enroll after April 2026.

The standards for short-hours childcare have changed.（保育短時間の基準が変更になりました）

Until now, only those whose childcare requirement was based on ‘job hunting or ‘childcare leave’ could use short-hours childcare, but starting from April 1, 2026, even if the childcare requirement is based on ‘employment’, ‘educational facility attendance’, or ‘nursing/caregiving’, if the total activity hours are less than 120 hours per month, the use of short-hours childcare will also be permitted.

However, even if the activity hours for work etc. are under 120 hours per month, but there are special circumstances (such as variable shifts or long commutes) that significantly affect daily life or childcare, the city will consider certifying standard-hour childcare based on your family’s situation.

Also, if you are using short-hours childcare but find it difficult to pick up your child within the designated time due to work schedules, you may extend use beyond the regular hours (within the facility’s opening hours) for an additional fee.
If you wish to use extended hours childcare, please check with your facility in advance.

The transfer application process has changed.（転園申込みの仕様が変更になりました）

Until now, when applying for transfer to another nursery school, only the Admission Application Form and the Notification of Change of Nursery School needed to be submitted.
Starting with applications for the 2026-27 academic year, it will also be necessary to submit a declaration regarding childcare requirements and attach necessary supporting documents.

Online applications are now more convenient.（電子申請での申込みが便利になりました）

Applications can now be completed entirely online through the electronic application system.
During the application period, submissions are accepted 24 hours a day. However, if there are any errors or missing documents, the Childcare Division will contact you.
If corrections are not made by the deadline, your application may not be formally reviewed.
In addition, change requests can also be submitted electronically.

The application period for each month has changed.（各月の申込み受付期間が変更になりました）

The deadline was previously the 25th of each month, but this has now been changed to the 20th.

The application validity period has changed.（申込みの有効期限が変更になりました）

The validity period for applications, previously 6 months, has been changed to 12 months (limited to within the same fiscal year). However, for certain childcare requirements listed below, applications will be suspended even if within the validity period. Please reapply if necessary.

【Childcare requirements that can be withdrawn even if the application is still valid】

• Pregnancy and Childbirth
  If admission to a childcare facility has not been decided by the month following the day that is 8 weeks after birth (14 weeks for multiple births) from the expected date of delivery or the date of birth, the application for admission will be withdrawn as there will no longer be a valid childcare requirement.
   
• Illness and Disability (when a medical certificate has been submitted as supporting documentation)
  If admission to a childcare facility has not been decided by the end of the sixth month after application, the medical certificate will expire, and the application will be withdrawn.
